Fresh soil samples contain water (moisture), which interferes with measurements and reduces accuracy. Therefore, all samples must be fully dried before analysis.
As stones and plant remains also interfere with the measurements, after drying they are removed using a 2 mm sieve.
Step-by-Step Procedure
1. Prepare the Sample
- Remove the barcode from the plastic container
- Empty the subsample into a triangular dryer compartment
2. Spread the soil
- Evenly distribute the soil within the dryer compartment
3. Add The Barcode
- Place the loose barcodes inside the same compartment
- Secure it using pins to keep it in place
4. Load the Dryer
- Place all compartments into the dryer. You can dry up to three samples at the same time in each dryer (one sample in each of the three compartments).
5. Set the Temperature
- Close the dryer by placing the lid over the samples
- Set the dryer knob to 40°C
The dryer has reached the correct temperature when the red light turns off
6. Dry the samples
- Dry for 60 minutes at 40°C
- After drying, remove the lid and the used compartments from the dryer
- If the sample does not feel dry by touch at the end of 60 minutes, dry for a few more minutes
Cleaning:
Always clean the fryer compartments with compressed air before starting with a new sample.
