The XRF contains a thin protective foil called the spectromembrane, on which samples are placed during analysis. This foil membrane:
- Prevents dust from entering the sensor
- Allows accurate measurements without interference
Over time, the quality of the spectromembrane decreases due to regular use.
If the quality of the foil is reduced, then the quality of the analysis results are reduced as well!
Inspection & Replacement Guideline
Inspect the quality of the foil every 2 weeks. Use a small flashlight to check for:
- Small cracks
- Dust particles or contamination
Replace the foil if you notice cracks or dust specks that can't be removed by gently blowing air.
- Replace the spectromembrane every 4 weeks, even if no visible damage is present.
- If the spectromembrane is damaged during any other moment then replace the spectromembrane immediately.
