When scanning samples with the Alpha (MIR), barcodes are normally registered automatically in the system and portal.
However, due to rare and specific circumstances it can happen that the file name is not transmitted in the correct file/barcode format. When this happens, the files must be renamed manually before they can be uploaded and processed.
Why Rename Alpha Scan files?
- To create new reports when carrying out tests through the support desk platform.
- When scan files rewrite themselves due to poor internet connection delaying upload of the scans
When the scan files have to be uploaded again and the actual sample is not available for re-scanning.
When Is Renaming Required?
Renaming Alpha scan files may be necessary when:
- Files are not recognized due to incorrect barcode format
- Uploads fail due to unstable internet connection
- Scan files overwrite each other
- Files need to be re-uploaded but the original sample is no longer available
How to Rename Alpha Scan files
Step 1: Locate the Scan Files
Navigate to the correct folder:
- If files are uploaded in the sent folder:
C:\data\dx\sent - If files are not uploaded in the sent folder:
C:\data\dx
Step 2: Copy the Files
- Identify the scan files by barcode number, copy and paste in a different folder. Remember to delete this folder when done.
- Each sample has two files, identified by the barcode number → copy both
- Paste them into a temporary folder
Copied scan file will appear as below with extensions before and after the actual barcode number .
Step 3: Rename the Files
The file name may contain extra characters before and after the barcode. Rename the file by removing the extensions before and after the actual barcode number as below .
- Remove all text before and after the barcode.
- Keep only the barcode number.
- Add the suffix:
_018.dx
Before (incorrect format):
[extra text]BARCODE[extra text].dx
After (correct format):
BARCODE_018.dx
The file is now correctly formatted for upload!
Step 4: Re-Upload the Files
Copy the renamed files and paste them outside the “sent” folder. Ensure the uploader is online, the new scan files will be uploaded to the sent folder for further processing. The uploader will automatically move these files to the “sent” folder.
- Check after a few minutes to confirm successful upload
