“Battery life” is the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged while “Battery lifespan” is the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced. Optimizing both gets you the most out of your scanner. Several actions can be observed to extend your scanner’s battery life and make charge last longer.
Tip 1: Use power adapters and chargers that come with the scanner
Always use power adapters and chargers that are purchased with the scanner. Use of other adapter and chargers can result in slow charging or not at all and in extreme cases, might damage the battery.
Tip 2: Keep it cool and observe charging duration
Avoid situations where your scanner can overheat especially when the battery is already fully charged. It takes at least 18 hours for the scanner battery to be fully charged when charging for the very first time and up to 11 hours for the subsequent re-charging. When fully charged it goes into stand-by mode observable by the green light giving just a small blink occasionally. Battery draining is much faster when it is hot even when not in use and this kind of drain can also result in a damaged battery.
Tip 3: Power saving
Keep the scanner in off state when you are not ready to scan samples; still in preparation and sorting stage of the samples. The scanner device (E series) goes into sleep state as long as possible when not actively scanning. This helps to save on battery power usage.
Tip 4: keep out of casing during charging
Charging your scanner when inside its casing may generate excess heat, which can affect battery capacity. Always take it out of its case first then connect to a power source.
Tip 5: Recommendations for long-term storage
If you want to store your scanner long term, two key factors will affect the overall health of your battery: the environmental temperature and the percentage of charge on the battery when it’s powered down for storage. Therefore, we recommend the following:
- Do not fully charge or fully discharge scanner’s battery; charge it to around 50%. If you store the scanner when its battery is fully discharged, the battery could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding a charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for a long period of time, the battery may lose some capacity leading to shorter battery life.
- Power off the scanner to avoid additional battery use.
- Store your scanner in a cool, moisture-free environment.
- During the long-term storage period; charge the scanner after every 4 weeks for 18 hours
